青春 (?) のSavanna Hotline

Savanna Hotline, released by Japanese fusion jazz group " Native Son " in 1979 ,By the time I was a student, which is a group I loved.



なんとも赤面するようなタイトルである。
1979年(昭和54年）：春　大学３年になったジャズ研部員（正確には軽音楽部Flying Dutchmanというバンド）であった私はピンチであった。1年の秋にから世話になっていたバンドの先輩３人が卒業し、部員は6年のドラムの先輩と、３年のピアノの私のわずか二名になってしまった。

その当時毎年4月に大学の前のジャズライブハウスの「きまぐれトム」でOB会を行っていた。その年のOB会は現役部員2名、OB14名とあり得ない状況となった。
そこで私は大学の同級生3人誘ってヘルプを頼んだ。ドラム、サックス、ベース志望の同級生であった。皆他の楽器の経験者で器用な連中であった。5月の連休にはNative Sonのコンサートが群馬音楽センターであり４人ででかけた。その時の一曲がSavanna Hotlineであった。４人ですぐに練習に取りかかった。懐かしい。

このNative Sonのコンサートで知り合った高崎経済大のジャズ研のtpの○山君と知り合い、経大のジャズ研の部室に出入りするようになったことから、どんどんとジャズの世界が広がって行った。当時の経大のジャズ研はまばゆいばかりのハイレベルな人達（真○氏、磯○氏、小○氏、佐○氏、それに現ケイノート店主の松○兄弟）で４年間、ほぼ毎週経大の部活に参加した。私の前のジャズの扉がどんどん開かれていった。

このNative Sonのコンサートで経大ジャズ研と知り合わなかったら私にとってのジャズの扉が閉じられたままになっていたかも知れない。
当時はFusion全盛の音楽的に豊であった時代。（と思っている）　今から33年も大昔の話。　　　　　
自分の音楽的人格形成期だった、あの頃の音楽が無性にやりたくなっている。

モ、ケ、ケの All Blues

"All Blues" is a jazz composition by Miles Davis first appearing on the influential 1959 album Kind of Blue. It is a 12 bar blues in 6/8; the chord sequence is that of a basic blues and made up entirely of 7th chords, with a ♭VI in the turnaround instead of just the usual V chord. In the song's original key of G this chord is an E♭7.
The piece is made even more distinctive by the bass vamp that repeats through the whole piece, except when a V or ♭VI chord is reached (the 9th and 10th bars of a chorus). Further to this, there is a harmonically similar vamp that is played by the horns (the two saxophones in the case of Kind of Blue) at the beginning and then (usually) continued by the piano under any solos that take place. Each chorus is usually separated by a four-bar vamp which acts as an introduction to the next solo/chorus.

と言うことで、AllBluesを壊してみた。

ある日のバンドのリハーサルにて
bass「こんなのどう」
piano「そのパターン、この前あの曲でやったでしょう、Love ○or ○ail、もっと音和減らしたら？」
bass「それじゃこれ」
piano「いいかも」
drum「アクセントの位置は？」
piano「最後に一発だけで......」
.............
piano「テナーは普通にやってください、途中で色々リズムチェンジしましょう」

で曲の大筋を決めたあと、邪悪トッピングをいつもkeyboardが担当する。

何度聞いても、このベースライン　「モ、ケ、ケ」と聞こえる。
ベースさん、前に行き過ぎです。もっと後ろ髪引いて欲しい。

Birdland , Music Exploration Company Live at Augusta March 17.2012

"Birdland" is a jazz-fusion instrumental composition written by keyboardistJoe Zawinul, of Weather Report. The song made its first debut on Weather Report’s 7th studio album, Heavy Weather, in 1977 shortly after the addition of virtuoso bassist, Jaco Pastorius. In previous years, the Weather Report had received a moderate amount of commercial success and achievement, however after the release of Heavy Weather, with Birdland at the helm of the album, the band gained an unearthly amount of media success. Birdland gained a number of awards, as well as a few top rankings on the Billboard 200Music Chart. Briskly after the fusion piece reached the top of the charts, it became known as a Jazz Standard,    and soon entered the set lists of other artists including Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson’s big band, The Manhattan Transfer, Quincy Jones, and The String Cheese Incident.
The song is performed completely in the key of G, however the piece continually flows back and forth utilizing major, minor, blues, and modal (mixolydian) strains-even including a diminished-related strain. The chromatic falling sequence of chords during Wayne Shorter's improvised sax solo are dominant 7th chords with an added minor 9th, thus sounding very similar to a diminished chord.

ご存じBirdlandはWeather Reportの 1977年　" Heavy Weather "に収められた敬愛するJoe Zawinulによる名曲。70年代Fusionを探検するために結成された 【音楽探検隊】ことMusic Exploration Companyにとって避けることのできない(苦笑）選曲でした。綿密に計算され、かつ印象的でポップなリフを作ったZawinulは不世出の天才としか言いようがありません。しかし、結構窮屈な曲。後半シャッフルになると抑制から開放されてもう歯止めがきかなくなってしまった。荒っぽい演奏ですが、音楽の会話は楽しい。
