ジャズの裾野を広げる Take the "A" Train ?

"Take the "A"Train "is a jazz standard by Billy Strayhorn that was the signature tune oh the Duke Ellington orchestra. It is arguably the most famous of the many compositions to emerge from the collaboration of Ellington and Strayhorn.
It is a work made by ordering songwriting composition for Billy Strayhorn who was a pianist and composer of Duke Ellington Orchestra in 1939. On February 15, 1941 records were released with the performance of the Ellington Orchestra and a big hit. Since then, it is widely known as the theme song of Ellington Orchestra. "A train" in the title of a song is the name of the New York city subway line A (aka the eighth city express) connecting New York City's eastern district of Brooklyn through Harlem to the north of Manhattan. In the New York City subway there are operating lines such as "C" and "E" (8th city local train stoppage) besides the "A" line which carries out fast driving on the route of the same route. 　1939年にデューク・エリントン楽団のピアニスト兼作編曲者であったビリー・ストレイホーンに作詞作曲をオーダーして作られた作品である。1941年2月15日にエリントン楽団の演奏でレコードが発売され大ヒットした。以来、エリントン楽団のテーマ曲として広く知られている。曲のタイトルにある「A列車」とは、ニューヨークの、ブルックリン東地区からハーレムを経てマンハッタン北部を結ぶニューヨーク市地下鉄A線（別名 8番街急行）の名称である。ニューヨーク市地下鉄では同一ルートの路線に快速運転を行う「A」系統の他に「C」「E」（8番街各駅停車）などの運行系統がある。この曲の題名と歌詞には、「ジャズを楽しめる」ハーレムに行くなら、速く行ける ”A"看板の列車にお乗りなさい」という意味である。

   さて、この演奏は、平成29年3月27日に前橋中央公民館で開かれた「ジャズを聞こう会」でのピアノ・トリオの演奏である。この会は中央公民館のサークルで「ジャズの裾野を広げる」ための貴重な会である。裾野が少しは広がったかどうかはよくわからないが.....。
